Dee Why Town Centre Drainage Upgrade - Oaks Avenue

Works have commenced to install new drainage pipes under Oaks Avenue to to improve drainage and reduce instances of flooding in the Dee Why Town Centre.

These works were identified as the highest priority in the Dee Why South Catchment Floodplain Risk Management Plan (2015). The upgrades are essential to reduce the high risk of severe flooding in the Dee Why South Catchment, particularly in the lower catchment and the Dee Why Town Centre.

    The installation of new stormwater infrastructure under Oaks Avenue is nearing completion. These works will reduce the impact of major flooding in the Town Centre, enabling better sustainable developments and more opportunities for outdoor trading.

    Progress to Date

    • Stages 1, 3, 4 & 6 complete
    • Stage 2 – 90% complete
    • Stage 5 – 98% complete
    • All utility service adjustments complete

    Stage 2 - minor works at various locations

    • Minor rectifications and reinstatement works following the completion of the Ausgrid network adjustments
    • Expected duration 1-2 weeks

    Council’s contractors, Ward Civil, are continuing to install new stormwater infrastructure under Oaks avenue to reduce the impact of major flooding in the Town Centre.

    Progress to Date

    • Stage 1 complete (culvert replacement)
    • Stage 2 installed approx. 120m of twin pipes (awaiting adjustments of services)
    • Stage 3 - 50% complete - have moved to western portion
    • Stage 4 nearing completion
    • Reinstatement of 90 degree angle parking
    • Reinstatement of pedestrian access on the north side of Oaks Avenue

    The drainage works are nearing completion on the corner of Oaks Avenue and Pittwater Road. This includes excavation and the installation of drainage pits and box culverts.

    Alterations to the gas and telecommunications networks are also being undertaken on the road and footpath in this vicinity.

    The above works are continuing at night this week (8pm-5am) through to Thursday 11/08. They will be followed by a continuous weekend shift Friday 12/08 to Sunday day 14/08.

    Further night works are currently scheduled Monday 15/08 to Thursday 18/08.

    Night Works

    Night works are currently scheduled from Mon 25/7 to Friday 29/7.

    The works involve excavating a trench and installing new drainage pits in Pittwater Road. These works were previously planned and delayed due to the contractor having to meet additional Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) requirements.

    Other night works are planned for Mon 1/8 to Friday 5/8. These works involve excavation and the placement of box culverts along Pittwater Road to Oaks Avenue.

    The noise created will be minimised where possible.

  • Oaks Ave Parking and Pedestrian Access

    Council’s contractors have reinstated the eastern end of the work site and returned most of the 90 degree angle parking, except for a few spaces needed for storage. Additional parking spaces on the southern side have also been made available.

    Pedestrian access is being re-established along the northern side of Oaks Avenue from Pittwater Rd to the Post Office. This will allow pedestrians to move through Oaks Avenue without having to cross the road.

    The new construction zone is located on the northern side of Oaks Ave near Pittwater Road. We expect to be working in this area for 3-4 weeks.
