Draft Single Use Plastics Policy

The production of plastic relies on non-renewable resources and produces harmful chemicals that place an inequitable burden on future generations. Plastic pollution not only has detrimental effects on human health it is also a major cause of global environmental degradation and specifics decline. We want to take leadership and partner with local businesses, community groups, our suppliers and contractors and Federal and State agencies to eliminate single use plastics.

As a first step we have developed a Single Use Plastic Policy that will encourage responsible procurement practices within Council, increase capacity to lobby all levels of government to drive policy change and ban plastic bags, provide leadership in the community by influence local business and retail to not rely on single use plastics and build capacity within the community for change in social practice.
