The 2022 Northern Beaches Council Code of Conduct and Procedures guide the ethical and behavioural standards that all council officials are required to comply with. The Procedures support the enforcement of those standards.

The adopted documents replace the previous versions of the Code of Conduct Policy and Procedures for the Administration of the Council Code of Conduct.

The Model Code of Conduct for Local Councils in NSW prescribes the minimum ethical and behavioural standards all council officials in NSW are required to comply with, while the purpose of the Procedures is to support the enforcement of those standards.

The Northern Beaches Council Code of Conduct is aligned to the Office of Local Government's Model Code of Conduct for Local Councils in NSW (Model Code of Conduct) which is made under section 440 of the Local Government Act 1993 (LGA) and the Local Government (General) Regulation 2021 (Regulation).

A report outlining the Amendments to the Model Procedures and Model Code of Conduct was presented at the Council meeting held on 24 May 2022.

At the meeting Council resolved to place the draft Northern Beaches Council Code of Conduct and draft Procedures for the Administration of the Northern Beaches Council Code of Conduct on public exhibition.

The draft documents were exhibited between 27 May and 26 June 2022. Feedback was revised and considered prior to finalising the Northern Beaches Council Code of Conduct and Procedures for the Administration of the Code of Conduct. A report noting the outcomes of engagement was reported to Council in its meeting on Tuesday 26 July.
