The Model Code of Conduct for Local Councils in NSW prescribes the minimum ethical and behavioural standards all council officials in NSW are required to comply with, while the purpose of the Procedures is to support the enforcement of those standards.
The Model Code of Conduct is prescribed under section 440 of the Local Government Act 1993 (LGA) and the Local Government (General) Regulation 2005 (the Regulation). Each council is required to adopt a code of conduct based on the Model Code of Conduct prescribed under the Regulation.
The Office of Local Government provides detailed FAQs relating to the Code and Procedures.
