The renewed, larger public amenities at East Esplanade Reserve, Manly were completed and opened in December, in time for the summer holidays.
The new construction includes more toilets, a family change room and accessible facilities.
An extensive timber deck integrates the old and new building, while protecting the roots of the precious fig tree beside the facilities.

In response to the adopted East Esplanade Landscape Masterplan and the East Esplanade Reserve Community Safety Management Plan and feedback from users, we've prepared a concept for the extension of the existing public amenities at East Esplanade.
The proposed amenities building will include:
- four additional toilets, providing six in total
- a change room (including baby change facilities)
- accessible amenity
- outdoor showers.
This work has been budgeted for as part of Council’s 2018/19 Capital Works Program.
The landscape masterplan for East Esplanade was adopted by Council on 19 December 2017. The masterplan addresses several issues relating to the area, including the capacity of the public amenities.
Further to the adoption of the masterplan Council adopted the East Esplanade Reserve Community Safety Management Plan, at its meeting of 28 August 2018.
This plan identifies a range of actions to manage the East Esplanade Reserve. This plan seeks to ensure that safety, amenity and the environment are maintained, with consideration to residents and visitors.
A key issue identified in this plan was the provision of public amenities, and the need to extend and upgrade the East Esplanade public amenities. This information is referenced in the
East Esplanade Reserve Community Safety Management Plan, pg. 129.
