Drop-in update 20 June

Thank you to those who have been along to chat with our project team, provide comment and get an update on the review and audit process.

Over the past four sessions we’ve had close to 200 people attend and share insight into how their areas currently work and identify areas of concern.

Initial feedback and questions at the drop-ins include concern for:

  • the number of permits issued to non-residents
  • commuters parking in permit areas
  • how visitor parking will be handled
  • sale of permits
  • number of permits issued to businesses
  • trailer and boat parking
  • how the audit process will address small driveways and carports
  • what the new scheme would look like

Participant's at the drop-ins expressed support for a system that:

  • links the registration number to the residential address
  • has provision for visitor parking
  • addresses needs of tradesman parking
  • frees up available parking in their street
  • acknowledges what works in the current scheme areas

Following the engagement period and review and audit process, we will provide a full engagement summary report on this project page.

Next steps

The project team will work to develop a scheme to address the needs of the Manly residents, yet also meets the guidelines set down by Roads and Maritime Services. The report and recommendations will be presented to the August Council meeting for endorsement for public exhibition.

Chat online or drop-in

We’d like to understand what works in your permit scheme area and what could be improved.

The information we learn from you will help shape the next project phase. This may result in a need to propose changes in permit areas, area zoning, or additional permit areas that are smaller in size.

How these changes take shape, we're not sure yet, however, through your conversations with our team and the audit information, we'll have insight into what should be considered when looking at possible parking solutions in Manly.

We will now work with the local community to establish a parking permit scheme that ensures fair and equitable access to parking to those that most need it.

We are required to deliver a scheme that is in keeping with the NSW Government Roads and Maritime Services Permit Parking Guidelines(External link). We look forward to working with the community on the best ways to achieve this.

Outcomes of the review and audit together will be reported back Council in August following discussions with the community.
