New AFZ approved by Council

An Alcohol Free Zone (AFZ) is used to prevent disorderly behaviour caused by the consumption of alcohol in public areas in order to improve public safety.

AFZs apply to public roads, footpaths, carparks and laneways in designated areas and are in force 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Following a review of the AFZ in 2021, including community consultation, Council endorsed the re-establishment of the existing Alcohol Free Zone in Belrose for a period of 4 years, from 1 September 2021 to 31 August 2025.

The Belrose AFZ is currently bounded by Blackbutts Road to the south, Glen Street and the newly constructed shopping precinct to the north, Glen Street to the west and Pringle Avenue to the east.

Proposed new AFZ

During the process of reviewing and re-establishing the Belrose AFZ in 2021, various requests were received from the community to amend the AFZ boundary. These requests were considered by Council staff and Police and assessed against the criteria in the Ministerial Guidelines.

Between 4 April 2022 and 8 May 2022 we consulted with you regarding the establishment of a new Alcohol Free Zone (AFZ) in Belrose, applying to the streets surrounding Wingara Reserve (Pindrie Place, Wingara Grove through Haigh Street down Coora Avenue, Marina Place and Lowanna Street). Thank you for your feedback.

At the meeting on Tuesday 28 June 2022, Council approved the new AFZ, adjacent to the existing Alcohol Free Zone, for the period 1 July 2022 to 30 November 2025.
