With more families, young people and sporting clubs, there’s an increasing demand for high quality and accessible community facilities.
That’s why we’re upgrading the sportsfields at Boondah Road and Jacksons Road as part of the Warriewood Valley Development Contributions Plan, which ensures local infrastructure keeps pace with community needs.
These upgrades are aligned with the Northern Beaches Sportsgrounds Strategy, aiming to address the current shortage of sports fields and improve the overall quality of sporting facilities throughout the region.
The improvements to the sports precinct will:
It is anticipated that the implementation of the precinct plan will be staged over multiple years, including upgrading of lighting to comply with Australian Standards.
The precinct is located along Boondah Road, Warriewood, connecting to Jacksons Road sportsfields to create a continuous, high-quality sporting corridor in the Warriewood Valley.

The project is funded by the Warriewood Development Contributions Plan.
Yes they will. Netball, Cricket, Softball and Football will continue to be catered for in the new precinct plan.
The playing surface of the sportsfields will be natural turf/grass. We are not currently proposing installation of a synthetic surface/artificial turf for the soccer and cricket fields. The multiuse hardcourts will also not be made of synthetic turf.
The Warriewood Sports Precinct upgrades will be delivered in stages over the next 2 to 3 years. Each stage will undergo a Review of Environmental Factors (REF) to assess and manage potential environmental impacts.
The project will be designed with a strong focus on environmental sustainability, particularly in relation to the Warriewood Wetlands—a regionally significant 26-hectare freshwater ecosystem that supports diverse flora and fauna, including endangered ecological communities and critically endangered species. Key objectives include managing stormwater and flooding, integrating the shared pathway into the natural landscape, retaining local trees where possible, and enhancing habitat connectivity by strengthening the riparian corridor with strategic plantings. Council’s Landscape Design team will carefully select species, including the potential use of Eucalyptus robusta along Boondah Road, to ensure compatibility with the wetland environment.
To minimise environmental impact, the pathway will be constructed using Low Carbon Concrete, which reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 50% and lowers long-term maintenance needs. Lighting upgrades will follow best-practice standards to ensure safety while reducing light pollution and wildlife disruption, with LED fixtures designed to meet national guidelines. Overall, the works aim to improve accessibility and safety while protecting the ecological integrity of the area, with no expected long-term negative effects on the surrounding environment.
The fields will be utilised by sporting associations and clubs, schools and the local community.
It is anticipated that the implementation of the precinct plan will be staged over multiple years. Upgrades to lighting of Field 2, adjacent to the Ted Blackwood Youth & Community Centre are anticipated to be undertaken in 2025/26 financial year.
Further works will be delivered across fields 5, 6 and 7 during 2026/27. Upgrades to field 2, such as drainage and irrigation are anticipated to occur in 2027/28 subject to funding availability.
The amenities building on the Western side of Boondah Road is proposed to be refurbished.
Lighting is proposed to be upgraded to meet existing Australian Standards for training and games across the sportsfields.
The shared path from the B-Line bus stop to Boondah Road will enhance safety and convenience for walking and biking in Warriewood as part of the MOVE - Northern Beaches Transport Strategy. Proposed lighting along this link will operate from dusk to dawn, improving visibility and safety for our community.
The Australian Standards prescribe how to achieve consistent quality and effectiveness of sportsfield lighting systems.
Considerations include the sport, player safety and limits for obtrusive light spill on neighbouring properties.
Lighting upgrades will be staged across the various fields in the precinct.
Lights at Field 2 should be ready for use in winter 2026 season.
Existing lights are currently able to operate until 9.30pm within the precinct. The lights will be available to use with an approved booking or allocation.
All sportsground lights are set by Council to turn off automatically at a particular time to comply with the approved booking or allocation time.
Sporting groups will be able to turn lights on and off via a mobile phone SMS.
Council’s sportsfield lighting fees are based on the amount of power lights require and a contribution to maintenance based on the type of lighting infrastructure.
Following completion of this project, sports groups and other users will be able to choose training or competition lighting. Training lighting requires less power and so will have a lower fee than competition lighting which requires more power.
Sporting groups and other users will also be able to turn lights on and off via a mobile phone and will only be charged for the time lights are on.
The amount payable by users is dependent of the length of time lights are on, whether training or competition lighting is used and the fee applicable.
Lighting fees are reviewed and set annually through Council’s usual budget process.
Fees vary across Council’s sportsgrounds as the type of lighting infrastructure installed has differed over the many years that lights have been installed.
Council will gain no financial benefit from the lighting.
The benefit to Council is the ability to manage sportsfield capacity demands. This will allow more people to get involved in sports in our area.
