We are making a new Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP).
This plan is about making life fair and inclusive for people living with disability.
From 19 September to 26 October 2025, we asked for your input on the new DIAP.
Thank you to everyone who contributed. We have reviewed your submissions and summarised them in our Community Engagement Summary Report.
Frequently asked questions
Around 1 in 5 Australians live with disability. It’s important that everyone feels safe, included and connected to access everything our community has to offer.
The Disability Inclusion Action Plan will outline what Council will do over the next four years to make sure people with disability feel included and can participate fully in our community.
We’re also required by the Disability Inclusion Act 2014 to have a Disability Inclusion Action Plan.
No, this will be our third plan.
We created our first plan in 2016 and our second in 2021. These plans have helped Council make the Northern Beaches more inclusive and accessible.
The new plan will build on the progress we’ve already made. It will focus on four key areas:
- Developing positive community attitudes and behaviours
- Creating liveable communities
- Supporting access to meaningful employment
- Improving access to mainstream services through better systems and processes.
Yes. The focus of the project is on people with disability on the Northern Beaches and what is important to them. We are also keen to hear from carers and families of people with disability, support workers, disability service providers, and all Northern Beaches residents who want to share their views.
Your feedback will help us understand the experiences and challenges of people with disability. It will also tell us what you think are the most important things for Council to work on. Your feedback will be used to inform our next Disability Inclusion Action Plan. This Plan will guide Council’s actions from 2026 to 2030 to improve access and inclusion.
All information you provide will be kept confidential and used to inform Council’s next Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2026-2030 and other relevant strategies and plans that improve access and inclusion. More information is found in our privacy policy.
We plan to share the draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan (2026–2030) with the community in early 2026 to get feedback. The final plan will then go to Council for approval prior to 30 June 2026.
