Keep up the good work
As you are now in the habit of separating your food waste, we encourage you to continue keeping it out of landfill after the pilot finishes, by establishing a home compost system or worm farm.
Kimbriki offer excellent home composting and worm farm workshops at a small cost. On completion of the workshop, Council offers a $90 voucher to residents that can be put towards the purchase of a worm farm or compost bin.
See the dates of the upcoming Kimbriki workshops listed below. They are run at a variety of different locations in our LGA.

The food waste collection pilot asks a small number of residents in selected areas of the Northern Beaches to collect and recycle household food waste over a 5 month period.
During the pilot, instead of putting your food waste in the red bin, we’ll ask you to collect it in the kitchen caddy we supply and put it out in your green bin with your garden waste for weekly collection.
We’ll seek your feedback at the start and end of the pilot so we know what is working and what can be improved.
The pilot is funded by the Domestic Waste Charge and there will be no cost to pilot participants.
The NSW Government has legislated that all councils must provide residents with a food waste collection service by 2030 - a big and exciting change for all households.
Such a big change requires considered implementation and that’s why we are taking a staged approach, starting with this pilot program with you and around 1500 of your neighbours.
Your experiences will help Council design a new service for the unique characteristics and needs of the Northern Beaches area.
Plus, on the Northern Beaches almost half of the contents of the red bin is food waste. Recycling food waste not only creates compost for agriculture and other uses but also diverts this waste from landfill which reduces potent emissions and extends the life of landfill sites.
The highlighted areas in the maps below are included in the pilot. Please note that the pilot includes only part of Dee Why and Cromer, as shown in the highlighted area.
Cromer

Dee Why
The pilot starts the week of 27 October 2025 and goes for 5 months, finishing the week of 9 March 2026.
