Due for completion late Oct
What is being constructed?
The project was recently approved by the Local Traffic Committee and works have now commenced on the Glen Street Shared Path.
The new shared path is expected to be complete by late October (weather permitting) and will include an upgrade to the existing footpath on the northern side of Glen Street between Forest Way and Pringle Avenue to a 2.5m wide shared path with safer crossing treatments at Wanaka Place and Forest Glen Crescent. The works will also see the removal of a liquid amber tree at 1 Wanaka Place due to safety concerns.
Once complete, greater accessibility will be provided for our community to walk, use prams, for wheelchairs, scooters and ride a bicycle.
The project is funded through the Federal Stimulus - School Infrastructure Program to develop safer pedestrian and bicycle routes connecting to Wakehurst Public School.
The work is in line with our Move Northern Beaches Transport Strategy and the Northern Beaches Bike Plan.
The concept plan was open for comment between 27 May and 24 June 2021 and received 63 comments. The comments showed a high level of support for the upgrade, highlighting anticipated benefits for all path users. Some concerns were raised about the impact to nearby trees and safety of pedestrians due to cyclist speed. View the Community and Stakeholder Engagement Report below to see responses to concerns and a summary of the engagement.
