Road safety upgrade complete
Project update - December 2024
We are dedicated to making roads safer for everyone—those walking, biking, and driving. The Collaroy Plateau Augusta Shopping Centre, found at the intersection of Veterans Parade and Grevillea Street, is an important place for our community, helping residents of Collaroy Plateau and Wheeler Heights connect with each other.
We have completed the installation of a marked pedestrian crossing on Grevillea Street. This crossing enhances safety and makes it easier for people walking and biking. It connects the local shops with the footpath leading to Wheeler Heights Public School.
List of completed works
- Installation of a 3.6m wide pedestrian crossing zebra pavement marking on Grevillea Street
- Installation of a double-sided crossing signs on new poles, in the concrete barrier and grass on the northern and southern side respectively
An internal traffic modelling study was conducted and supported the concept plan. This included an analysis of traffic counts, pedestrian counts, road geometry, impact to speed and traffic delays.
Community feedback
We exhibited the concept plan from 23 August to 24 September 2024, which received 87 responses from our community. The proposed pedestrian crossing on Grevillea Street received significant community support, with a strong emphasis on improving safety, particularly for families and elderly residents. While the majority view the crossing as a vital addition, concerns were raised regarding potential traffic congestion and visibility challenges near car parks and delivery zones. Suggestions for further safety enhancements, such as the inclusion of speed bumps, were also made.
Outcome of Local Traffic Committee Meeting
The report was presented to Council's Local Traffic Committee, with the proposal of a marked pedestrian crossing at Grevillea Street approved for installation.
