Draft in progress
Public exhibition November
The Northern Beaches Destination Management Plan (DMP) will be a strategic document developed to provide a framework to guide sustainable tourism over the next five years. The Plan will be based on collaboration and consensus from community, government and industry.
The DMP will align with Northern Beaches Council’s Community Strategic Plan 2018-2028. The Plan will provide guidance to ensure that tourism continues to support the local economy and local amenity while considering and protecting the unique natural environment and cultural attributes of the Northern Beaches.
The Plan will highlight the Visiting Friends and Relatives market (VFR), which is a proven and growing tourism sector for the Northern Beaches.
Council recognises the ongoing and significant economic and social benefits tourism contributes to the Northern Beaches, including its positive contribution to local employment.
Council is analysing engagement feedback on the key directions paper and using the information as part of DMP drafting.
The draft is scheduled to go to the October Council meeting for approval to exhibit.
Please visit the Council meetings webpage for access to meeting agendas, minutes, requests to speak etc.
Thanks for your interest our Destination Management Plan - draft key directions.
The comment period has now closed.
Over the past three months, we've worked closely with key stakeholders, local tourism professionals and peak bodies to help us develop draft key directions for the destination.
We carried out over 40 in-depth one-on-one interviews with:
- tourism operators
- accommodation operators
- event managers
- business asset and infrastructure managers
- central government agencies
- community organisations
We also held the Northern Beaches Tourism Summit in May 2019. This event brought together 106 tourism stakeholders from across the area to learn, discuss and share thoughts about our destination; now and into the future.
This preliminary consultation also provided an opportunity to review the regions' key points of difference, gather insight on strengths, opportunities and challenges.
