Supporting our local tourism sector
Northern Beaches Council plays an important role in tourism. We provide marketing, infrastructure and services to help manage and support our tourism economy.
Destination Northern Beaches provides a roadmap to COVID recovery in the short term and supports a sustainable visitor economy in the longer term.
It identifies the foundations we need to put in place to be able to call ourselves a tourism region. The plans highlight the actions needed to help boost our visitor economy in a way that does not affect the lifestyles of local residents.
This includes focusing on niche or targeted visitor types, supporting higher quality and more diverse offerings, coordinating visitor experience and celebrating the things that make the Northern Beaches unique.
We need your feedback to ensure we are providing our tourism sector the right level of support.

The draft Key Directions for a Sustainable Visitor Economy paper aims to be a catalyst for community conversation and feedback that will inform the drafting of the Northern Beaches Destination Management Plan.
Over the past three months, we've worked closely with key stakeholders, local tourism professionals and peak bodies to help us develop draft key directions for the destination.
We carried out over 40 in-depth one-on-one interviews with:
- tourism operators
- accommodation operators
- event managers
- business asset and infrastructure managers
- central government agencies
- community organisations
We also held the Northern Beaches Tourism Summit in May 2019. This event brought together 106 tourism stakeholders from across the area to learn, discuss and share thoughts about our destination; now and into the future.
This preliminary consultation also provided an opportunity to review the regions' key points of difference, gather insight on strengths, opportunities and challenges.
