Supporting our local tourism sector
Northern Beaches Council plays a major role in tourism. We are actively involved in promoting tourism, and providing infrastructure and services to manage and support our visitor economy.
Destination Northern Beaches: Creating a Sustainable Visitor Economy is our five year Destination Management Plan (DMP) developed with the local industry and key stakeholders to set the direction for future growth in our visitor economy.
The draft DMP is supported by a two-year action plan 'Destination Northern Beaches COVID Recovery Plan' which is aimed at helping local tourism operators rebound, recover and drive new business as we start getting back to normal.
We want to know what you think of our plans to rebuild a thriving and sustainable visitor economy. Have we got the balance right?

The draft Key Directions for a Sustainable Visitor Economy paper aims to be a catalyst for community conversation and feedback that will inform the drafting of the Northern Beaches Destination Management Plan.
Over the past three months, we've worked closely with key stakeholders, local tourism professionals and peak bodies to help us develop draft key directions for the destination.
We carried out over 40 in-depth one-on-one interviews with:
- tourism operators
- accommodation operators
- event managers
- business asset and infrastructure managers
- central government agencies
- community organisations
We also held the Northern Beaches Tourism Summit in May 2019. This event brought together 106 tourism stakeholders from across the area to learn, discuss and share thoughts about our destination; now and into the future.
This preliminary consultation also provided an opportunity to review the regions' key points of difference, gather insight on strengths, opportunities and challenges.
