Our Open Space and Recreation Strategy has identified that this location is suitable for a neighbourhood-sized playground.

A neighbourhood playground is described as follows:

"Located in residential areas and serves the partial suburb catchment, being within an approximately ten-minute walk (800m distance) to residents. Provides a few playspace elements which cater to different age groups and can incorporate different play activities.

Typical Facilities: Two or more pieces of play equipment, typically including a playspace unit with supporting recreation elements. Provides basic supporting amenities e.g. seats, picnic tables, natural shade"

Being a small playground, it is difficult to cater for all ages and abilities. We will select a play structure that mainly offers play opportunities for ages 3 to 8, suitable to the space and budget available.

Generally, we don't fence playgrounds of this size unless there is an immediate high-level risk, such as an immediately adjacent road or water body.

Fencing smaller reserves often makes them less inviting for all members of the community.

We will look to provide park delineation fencing along the Plateau Road edge of the reserve as part of the works.

We appreciate that many parents and carers would like all playgrounds to be shaded, however shade structures are not provided in all our smaller playgrounds due to establishment and ongoing maintenance costs.

The proposed playground has been positioned to receive natural shade from nearby trees at certain times of the day. New tree planting for additional shade will be considered.
