Drafting the Council Report

Project update: April 2025

The community feedback received has been reviewed and considered for the draft Seaforth Oval Reserve Plan of Management (PoM). Key feedback themes are summarised below, under "What you told us".

The draft PoM was sent to the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (the Department) on 20 August 2024 for their review and consent to publicly exhibit.

In December 2024 the Department advised they support the draft PoM being placed on public exhibition with some minor amendments.

We are awaiting the Department’s appointment of Council as Crown land manager for the additional parcel of land to the south of the reserve. Once Council is appointed as Crown land manager of this additional land, we will seek Council's approval to publicly exhibit the draft PoM.

The feedback and survey responses received during the first stage of community consultation will be made publicly available in the Community Engagement Report that will be included with the report to Council.

What you told us

Feedback collected during consultation highlighted how well-used and important this reserve is to residents, visitors, sporting and community groups. Here are the key themes of what we heard from the community:

Location

Creating a vision for the reserve

The reserve provides many opportunities for our community to increase their social, mental and physical health and wellbeing. From using the community centre to organised sport including soccer, cricket and little athletics, to walking the dog, enjoying the playground and basketball hoop, casual gatherings and connecting to trails in the picturesque Garigal National Park, the reserve has so much to offer.

We are developing a new Seaforth Oval Reserve Plan of Management (PoM) which includes adding new Crown land and the creation of an intermediate to advanced level bike park adjacent to the informal car park in the southern part of the reserve.

To inform the development of a new draft PoM, we sought your views over a four-week period and received over 500 comments on what's important to you about the reserve, how you use it and opportunities for improvement.

This feedback will inform the new Seaforth Oval Reserve Plan of Management, including opportunities for improvements and ideas about the proposed bike park to ensure that the reserve continues to meet the needs of the community into the future.

Why are we preparing a new PoM?

A new Seaforth Oval Reserve Plan of Management is required to:

  • meet Council's obligations under the Crown Land Management Act 2016
  • enable a new intermediate to advanced level bike park to be built on Crown land
  • incorporate the additional Crown land (27,500 square metres) to the south of Seaforth Oval Reserve into the Plan of Management
  • review and update commitments regarding the current and future use of the oval and its management, in consultation with the community to ensure that the site and facilities continue to meet the needs of users.
