Following the completion of the new playground in June 2020, we are about to start constructing a new shared path to allow easier access from Allambie Road and a safe place for younger children to ride scooters and bikes.

We will also be installing a new water station near the amenities building.

Work is due to start on Tuesday 6 April 2021 and expected to be completed within three weeks, weather permitting.

The oval will remain open during construction, however, there will be no access along the eastern side of the oval, adjacent to the public school.

Allambie Heights Oval was initially identified in 2015 as a possible location for a district playground; to help contribute a range of open space and recreational facilities in the family-friendly suburb. The oval is close to local school, shops, tennis courts and Scout Hall.

Our community had extensive input on the project, with concept plans for the playground out for consultation in September 2018 and then a second round between May and August 2019. Construction on the playground project was completed in May 2020.

The playground sits nestled amongst a natural bush setting, and boasts a hill slide, three swings, a see-saw and a climbing frame. The materials used include natural woods and muted colours to blend with the surrounds. Teens have also been catered for, with the installation of a multi-sport half-court for basketball and futsal.

Thank you to all the people who made a comment or attended the drop in during the exhibition period. We received 27 comments online, including many votes for various options from the kids.

Aprroximately 40 people attended one of the drop-in sessions.

All the comments will now be reviewed in developing the final masterplan doc which will go back to Council to endorse the preferred playgroiund option - when??

Following initial community consultation we’ve developed a Concept Plan for Allambie Heights Oval. It includes three playground options we would like you to comment on.

In 2015, Allambie Heights Oval was identified as a potential location for a district playground to contribute to a diverse range of open space and recreation facilities across the northern beaches.

Council had an approved budget in 2019/20 to develop the concept plan for this project and to build the playground before April 2020.

Council undertook a two-stage community engagement process, commencing in September 2018.

Stage 1 engagement gathered ideas and opportunities for the type of playground you would like to see at Allambie Heights Oval.

Ideas included:

  • New equipment
  • Improved access and pathway connections
  • Half multi-purpose court

Not included in this project:

  • Skate park
  • Amenities building upgrade
  • Sportsfield upgrade
