It's play time

Works complete

The upgraded playground at Griffith Park, Collaroy is now open. It features a larger fully fenced play area and a new shade covering to help beat the summer heat.

Little explorers will love driving the mini B-Line Bus play piece as they watch the real buses drive by on Pittwater Road.

Younger children will also enjoy the new play structure that includes platforms, climbing elements and a double slide.

As they get bigger and more adventurous they can progress to challenge their climbing skills on the rope climbing cube.

The playground also features three swings including a basket swing, high back toddler swing and standard swing.

Background

As part of the 2023/24 Capital Works Playground Renewal Program, we undertook the renewal of Griffith Park Playground in Collaroy.

Griffith Park Playground is a District category playground located in the visually spectacular area of Long Reef Headland. The Playground itself is situated within parkland, adjacent to an off-leash dog area and viewed from the busy arterial of Pittwater Road.

We received five design proposals for the playground renewal from three suppliers. The designs are based on an outline of requirements and budget. Click through the tabs further down the page to view each proposal.

The proposals were exhibited between Wednesday 21 June and Sunday 23 July 2023. We asked the community to rate each design proposal, and we received 106 responses. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback.

Community feedback identified a very strong desire for the playground to be shaded, and we allocated additional funding to the project for the installation of a shade sail as part of the playground works.

You can view the consultation findings, including all comments received, in the Community Engagement Report.

Following community consultation, we proceeded with a revised version of Proposal A (view the revised plans below), with the inclusion of the “B-Line” bus. This proposal was selected after evaluating community preferences alongside all other Council-required criteria. Some amendments have been made to the original proposal to improve safety and design.
