Works underway

  • Project update - July 2024

Construction of the Plateau Road and Anzac Avenue road safety improvements are now underway.

We anticipate works will be completed by September 2024, subject to weather and other unforeseen delays.

Read more on what we are doing and how we are managing the works below.

We are making our roads safer following a review of historical data and feedback from the community about vehicle and pedestrian safety in Collaroy Plateau. Works are underway to install several safety improvements along Plateau Road and Anzac Avenue road including:

  • Improvements to the geometry of the intersection of Anzac Avenue with Plateau Road
  • Stop signs at Anzac Avenue at the eastern and western approaches
  • Removal of the existing roundabout and installation of a raised intersection with four-way pedestrian crossings
  • Replacement of kerb access ramps
  • Replacement and installation of footpaths, kerb and gutters to improve pedestrian access and traffic safety

The project is funded through the Federal Government Safer Roads Program and is part of a wider collection of works aimed to improve the intersections and approaches at Orlando Road, Anzac Avenue and Boomerang Road. Improvements will also be made to the intersections at Plateau Road and Hendy Avenue to support the Anzac Avenue upgrades.

These improvements were approved by the Northern Beaches Local Traffic Committee on 6 June 2023.

During the design review process, it was determined that the proposed roundabout upgrade at the intersection of Anzac Avenue and Plateau Road was not the most appropriate solution as it did not significantly improve safety for all road users at the location. Council has undertaken a review of the location and the revised plans can be viewed below.

Construction on Parkes and Orlando Roads, Parkes and Boomerang Roads and Parkes Road and Anzac Avenue have now been completed.

Ozpave (Aust) Pty Ltd will be carrying out these works on behalf of Northern Beaches Council.

During works there will be temporary changes to traffic and parking to ensure the safety of workers, residents, and road users alike.

Partial road detours may be in place during construction. Otherwise, traffic control and signage will be on site to ensure the road network will remain open at all times.

There may be restricted parking during the day between 7am to 5pm and changes to pedestrian access will also be in place.

Construction of the Plateau Road and Anzac Avenue road safety improvements will commence in June 2024. We anticipate works will be completed by September 2024, subject to weather and other unforeseen delays.

Working hours will be during the day from 7am to 5pm (some Saturday Works are expected) and works will be staged to minimise disruption.

Whilst efforts will be deployed to minimise disruption, there will be noise generated from construction activities such as demolition, installation of formwork, and pouring of concrete.

Construction can be disruptive, and we thank you for your patience while we complete this important community project.
