Works completed

A significant safety upgrade has been completed at Collaroy Plateau, transforming the previous roundabout into a raised platform intersection with comprehensive pedestrian crossings. This change was made in response to safety concerns and community feedback, especially considering the location near Collaroy Plateau Public School.

Funded by the Federal Government Blackspot program, the project incorporated several safety enhancements including:

  • Improvements to the geometry of the intersection of Anzac Avenue with Plateau Road
  • Stop signs at Anzac Avenue at the eastern and western approaches
  • Removal of the existing roundabout and installation of a raised intersection with four-way pedestrian crossings
  • Replacement of kerb access ramps
  • Replacement and installation of footpaths, kerb and gutters to improve pedestrian access and traffic safety

This upgrade is part of a wider initiative to enhance safety in the area, which includes modifications to intersections at Parkes Road, Orlando Road and Boomerang Road.

These improvements were approved by the Northern Beaches Local Traffic Committee on 6 June 2023.

During the design review process, it was determined that the proposed roundabout upgrade at the intersection of Anzac Avenue and Plateau Road was not the most appropriate solution as it did not significantly improve safety for all road users at the location. Council has undertaken a review of the location and the revised plans can be viewed below.

Construction has now been successfully completed at the intersections of Plateau Road and Anzac Avenue, along with Parkes Road, Orlando Road and Boomerang Road.
