Guidelines adopted

The Shared Transport Policy was adopted at the Council meeting on Tuesday 23 July 2019.

Engagement has now concluded.

Background

Council is committed to ensuring that the transport needs of our Northern Beaches community are met now and into the future.

Our Transport Vision, as identified in the Move Northern Beaches Transport Strategy is to “enable freedom of movement to, from and within the Northern Beaches using a safe, smart, efficient, integrated and sustainable transport network”.

We aspire to achieve a 30 per cent reduction in trips by cars and a reduction in carbon emissions from transport, as well as doubling the active travel trips made within our community.

Shared mobility, the sharing of transport modes including all those used for hire to transport people (mass transit, private shuttles, buses, taxis, car and bike-sharing) and urban delivery vehicles, will support this aspiration.

In conjunction with the Shared Mobility Policy we’ll also be exhibiting guidelines for bike, car and other transport sharing operators.

Updates

At its meeting on 18 December 2018, Council resolved to place the draft Shared Mobility Policy on public exhibition.

Shared mobility is the sharing of transport modes and includes all those used for hire to transport people (mass transit, private shuttles, buses, taxis, car and bike-sharing) and urban delivery vehicles.

The draft Policy supports the aspirations outlined in the recently adopted Move Northern Beaches Transport Strategy to achieve a 30 per cent reduction in trips by cars and a reduction in carbon emissions from transport, as well as doubling the active travel trips made within our community.
