Project update - October 2025
The new path connecting South Curl Curl Beach to Fisherman’s Walk is now open!
The improved connection features an accessible ramp and boardwalk and provides a safer path away from cars, so you can focus on the view. The project improves safety by removing the shared zone in the upper carpark and enhance pedestrian connectivity.
Construction of the new accessible pathway from South Curl Curl Beach to Fisherman’s Walk via the swim club began in late May 2025 and was complete by the end of October 2025. Works also included an upgrade of the upper car park.
Project background
Council approved the Curl Curl Beach Landscape Masterplan in 2014 to enhance Flora and Richie Roberts Reserve behind Curl Curl Beach. The project aimed to create a safe, natural space for the community.
A key aspect of the Landscape Masterplan project was to provide accessible connections around South Curl Curl Swim Club.
This project has built an accessible pathway from South Curl Curl Beach to the rear and first level of the swim club, continuing on to Fisherman’s Walk, to improve connectivity in the area. This new connection improves pedestrian safety by removing the shared zone in the upper carpark.
The community was invited to review a landscape plan from 2 August to 1 September 2024. Feedback showed strong support for pathway upgrades, particularly regarding accessibility and safety. Balancing these improvements with environmental preservation was a key concern.
Based on community input, the plan was revised. Notable changes include removing previously proposed switchbacks and steps behind South Curl Curl Swim Club, and implementing straighter pathway alignments. These modifications aimed to enhance accessibility while addressing community preferences.

Revised design
Following community feedback, the landscape plan was revised. Key changes include removing proposed switchbacks and steps behind South Curl Curl Swim Club, and implementing straighter pathways. These adjustments aimed to improve accessibility and flow, addressing community concerns about stairs and reflecting the preference for ramps. The modifications balance enhanced accessibility with community input.

Construction staging
In response to community feedback, the works were divided into two stages to minimise disruption. Stage 1, which included the accessible walkway, was completed in early to mid-October 2025. This was followed by the car park upgrade (stage 2), finished by the end of the month.
