What's happening?
A draft Statement of Recognition and Commitment (draft Statement) has been developed to affirm Council’s longstanding commitment to engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and stakeholders connected to the Northern Beaches.
The draft Statement includes elements of Council’s Acknowledgement of Country, a former Statement of Reconciliation, Local Strategic Planning Statement principles, strategic objectives of the Aboriginal Heritage Office, and analysis of examples of other NSW councils’ Statements of Commitment.
At the Ordinary Council meeting on 17 March 2026, Council resolved to publicly exhibit the draft Statement to seek community feedback on the cultural appropriateness and local relevance of the draft.
