Final Walkway Design - Surf Reserve, North Curl Curl

2 November 2017

Thank you to everyone who commented on the proposed walkway design for Surf Reserve, nth Curl Curl.

What the community said

The feedback received during the consultation period identified strong community support to;

  • maintain the open green space at the southern end of the reserve
  • not to proceed with planting of additional native shrubs
  • use natural colored concrete on any paths to blend in with the natural environment.
An alternate route

The consultation also identified a suggested alternate route, formalising the existing path located along the lagoon.

This option was thoroughly considered, however as this location is prone to flooding, it can not accommodate an all-weather continuous path. We will however include an additional section of path, connecting from the main path, to the lagoon walkway.

This will be marked on wayfinding signage as an alternate route if conditions are suitable.

The Final Design

As a result of the overall consultation and the review of the suggested alternate route, the new design will now feature;

  • 2.5m shared path from Griffin Road to Surf Road
  • Installation of sandstone bollards at col de sac
  • 1.5m concrete path from Surf Road, hugging the vegetation connecting to Huston Pde
  • Small section of path connecting from the new walkway to the alternate lagoon path

The new concrete path will be sandstone colored to improve the aesthetics of the new walkway.

Upcoming works

The upcoming works are scheduled to commence late November 2017 - early December 2017 with completion expected before Christmas.

Council and the contractor will be working together to minimise disruptions during the works.
