Council is committed to improving walking and cycling connections and providing multi-modal transport options to offer the community alternatives to car use. The upgraded path will allow for better pedestrian amenity and a safe cycling connection. This is in-line with Council’s Move – Northern Beaches Transport Strategy 2038.

Following community consultation, detailed design and NSW Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) approval. It is anticipated that construction would commence in February 2020.

The proposal has been designed to minimise any impact on car parking. The current concept requires the removal of one on street car parking space to allow for a crossing treatment at the corner of Gladstone and Kalinya Streets. There will be short term impacts on street parking during construction.

Access will be maintained to all properties during works. If driveways are to be reconstructed, Council/contractor will communicate with each affected property regarding vehicle access and timing of works. Vehicle access may be restricted for up to 48 hours if a driveway is to be reconstructed.

Depending on condition and alignment of driveway, driveways may be reconstructed to ensure consistency of surface and levels are maintained along the path. Any works would be constrained to within the road reserve between kerb and property boundary. Works would be carried out as part of the project costs.

It is anticipated that street trees will be retained. The current path design will narrow where required to maintain existing street trees.There will be some loss of shrub or small tree vegetation to allow for adequate path width along Dearin Reserve. This vegetation will be replaced. The hedge adjacent to Mirage Hotel will be affected by works. This hedge will be removed to allow for adequate path width.
