Shared Path - Howard Avenue, Dee Why

14 May 2018

Council undertook an extensive consultation process including direct mail to 12,000 residents and businesses within Dee Why. We received a total of 101 submissions.

These submissions identified a number of issues that were important to the community including safety, parking and trees.

As a result of the consultation process, Council has made a number of improvements to the proposal, including;

  1. Increasing the number of advanced trees to be planted as part of the works which will maintain the avenue of trees. These will be planted in tree cells to prevent damage to infrastructure and provide conditions to encourage rapid growth.
  2. Locating pedestrian traffic closer to the boundary and cycle traffic closer to the road to reduce the conflict with cars exiting driveway
  3. Removing the conflict between pedestrians and cyclists, by delineation (line marking) to provide separation
  4. A number of existing tree trunks will be salvaged and re-used for nature play in playgrounds across the Northern Beaches

Council has made the decision to proceed with the project so as to improve Howard Avenue for the long term and to address safety issues with damaged infrastructure such as footpaths and kerbing.

Detailed design will commence in May 2018 with construction expected to start in August 2018.
