What's happening?

In 2022, we began discussions on upgrading 3 reserves as part of the Frenchs Forest town centre park upgrades.

We received feedback on the preliminary concept designs for all 3 reserves in May 2022 as part of a broader discussion.

We recently completed Brick Pit Reserve and now have funding to progress the design and construction of Akora Reserve.

An updated concept plan was on public display from Monday 17 November to Sunday 14 December 2025 and we received 41 comments. The community engagement report will be available shortly.

Thank you for your feedback, your comments will help inform the final design with construction planned for late 2026.

Background

The improvements planned for Akora Reserve will make the most of its open space, creating areas for both active play and quiet relaxation.

Akora Reserve will provide the community with a welcoming environment that supports a range of recreational activities - open spaces to run, play, and relax, plus areas where kids can use their imagination in play through nature.

Whether it’s climbing, building, or pretending, there’ll be lots of ways to play and discover all while preserving the natural beauty of the reserve. A new pathway will be added to improve safe access through the park.

We’ll keep the mature trees that provide shade and character and introduce new plantings that reflect the local environment.

Previous consultation

We thank everyone who contributed their thoughts and feedback on the plans for Akora Reserve. Phase 1 consultation on the preliminary concept design ran from 24 March to 4 May 2022 where we received 57 comments.

Support for the upgrade and the concept design for Akora Reserve was generally high, with some feedback suggesting possible changes or enhancements. Other feedback raised concerns over specific elements of the concept design such as noise and privacy impacts to neighbouring properties, and a reduction in open space.

Our Community and Stakeholder Engagement Report contains all feedback received throughout the phase 1 consultation period and our responses to questions and suggestions.
