Snapshot

Detailed design - on hold

Further work on the detailed design for Akora Reserve has been put on hold pending the availability of funding. Once funding has been confirmed, we will commence detailed design. The design will inform our tender process before any construction can get underway.

Site investigations such as ecological and geotechnical assessments will be carried out which, along with your feedback, will inform the detailed design process.

We will update this page when the detailed design commences, and keep you informed of our progress on the designs and any technical studies where appropriate.

Consultation history

Background

Revitalisation of Akora Reserve will create generous open space areas for recreational activities and picnicking, and smaller spaces for relaxation.

The design intention is to create green spaces, catering to different activities and linking to the greater reserve environment. It will provide an all-ability connection between adjacent streets and lighting for safe night use. We will retain mature existing trees that provide the park with well established shade, scale and natural character and use Duffy's Forest Endangered Ecological Community floral species in the proposed planting.

The concept designs have been prepared based on the specific site conditions and the existing qualities of each reserve. The artists impressions and plans below give you an idea of the proposed features and inclusions for Akora Reserve. Click on the images to learn more.

What we heard

We thank everyone who contributed their thoughts and feedback on the plans for Akora Reserve. Community engagement ran from 24 March to 4 May 2022 and we received 57 comments.

Support for the upgrade and the current concept design for Akora Reserve was generally high with some feedback suggesting possible changes or enhancements and other feedback raising concerns over specific elements of the concept such as noise and privacy impacts to neighbouring properties, and a reduction in open space.

Our Community and Stakeholder Engagement Report contains all feedback received throughout the consultation period and our responses to questions and suggestions.
