  • Seawall Renewal - Stage 2

As part of the Careel Bay / George Street, Avalon Foreshore Masterplan, we are constructing a new seawall adjacent to and extending from the completed Stage One works.

    The new seawall will include:

    • replacing the existing old steps
    • constructing a footpath
    • car parking bays leading along George Street from Careel Bay Wharf to a traffic turning realignment at the end of George Street

How will the works impact me?
The construction zone located on the Northern side of George Street require use of space currently being used as informal parking.

Access for residents opposite the construction zone will not be impacted and every effort will be made to minimise noise and dust during working hours: Monday to Friday between the hours of 7am and 4pm.

Enquiries about this project can be directed to Russell Jenkins on 1300 434 434.

Detail design and co-ordination for all other elements in Stage One are underway as well.

  • Background - March 2014

An updated masterplan is being prepared for the Careel Bay foreshore area.
The masterplan will address key issues for the precinct, including dinghy storage, recreation needs and protection of the foreshore. Improvements arising from the masterplan are intended for local residents, dinghy users and visitors to the area.
    Suggested improvement works include:
    • Stabilising the foreshore by creation of a wall that blends into the surrounding area.
    • Creating access onto the beach and surrounding waterway
    • Infilling of land to provide space for recreation and dinghy storage, including ramp access for dinghies
    • Pedestrian access to the road and improved pedestrian safety. The masterplan will allow two-way vehicle access.
Once the masterplan is adopted by Council, work is expected to take place in two stages. Stage 1 will be the construction of a dinghy storage rack and associated landscaping through a Better Boating Program grant. The remainder of the work will be subject to future funding.
