We have renewed the playground equipment within Casuarina Reserve.

Our Open Space and Outdoor Recreation Strategy and Action Plan identified several small playgrounds, and recommended we consult with the local community on whether to renew them or remove and replace them with alternative recreational facilities.

Casuarina Reserve was identified given its close proximity to other playgrounds, e.g. Poppy Park.

We asked whether you preferred renewed playground facilities or an alternative recreational option. Many of you said you would like us to maintain a local playground, however there was also acknowledgement of its proximity to Poppy Park and the desire for alternative uses.

The new playground features a picnic setting and swing set with safety surfacing.

For those wanting something a little more adventurous, the nearby Poppy Park Playground is larger and has a more diverse range of equipment.

Between 3 April and 11 May 2025, we asked for feedback from local residents to see if there was significant demand for a change of use (e.g. open green space) or if we should renew the playground in Casuarina Reserve, Forestville.

Option 1: Renew the playground with equipment and softfall to meet Australian standards.

Option 2: Remove the play equipment to create open green space for informal recreation, with the option for some seating and/or shelter.

We received feedback from 40 people, with a majority (64%) selecting Option 1 - renew the playground equipment. Further detail on the responses, including all comments received, is available in the Community Engagement Report.
