Project snapshot
We are working to improve road safety for everyone who walks, cycles and drives between their homes, town centres and recreation areas.
Our Northern Beaches Walking Plan and Move - Northern Beaches Transport Strategy 2038 outline several actions to help make the roads safer for you, including building better footpath connections and calming traffic in local streets.
Proposal
What was proposed?
To improve connection to the existing footpath at Kambora Avenue, Davidson, we proposed to install a pedestrian refuge near the intersection of Alt Crescent to improve safety and amenity for pedestrians, including people accessing the bus stop.
A pedestrian refuge will assist people in crossing Kambora Avenue in two stages when there is a safe break in traffic. It will provide a traffic-calming effect by narrowing the roadway, encouraging drivers to slow down.
To install a pedestrian refuge we would need to introduce no stopping restrictions on both sides of the refuge to ensure adequate visibility of and for pedestrians. This will mean a small reduction in on-street parking.
Consultation
We asked for your feedback on the proposal in 2 stages:
- OneBlink webform between 10 and 23 February 2025
- Comment form on this page between 21 February and 23 March 2025.
We received feedback from 80 people across the 2 forms - thank you to everyone who shared their feedback
Many of you recognised the importance of safe crossing options for pedestrians and calming traffic in local streets. However, the majority were not supportive of this particular proposal because there is a similar crossing nearby. As part of the Frenchs Forest Active Transport Project, we are proposing to upgrade the pedestrian crossing outside Kambora Public School.
We have listended to your feedback and considered the proposal alongside other improvements proposed for the area, and will not proceed with installing the pedestrian refuge at this time.
