Find out what's happening

Overview

The Michaela Howie Playground at Dee Why Beach is set for renewal, focusing on enhancing play experiences for children aged 0-8 years. This project aims to foster increased social interaction among families while incorporating design elements that reflect the coastal environment. Key improvements include the installation of new play equipment, with a focus on inclusivity, and additional seating areas.

What we heard

Community feedback, gathered during consultations in April and May 2023, highlighted a desire for a high-quality playground with exciting play experiences. There was particular emphasis on incorporating more nature play elements and increasing seating opportunities. While some community members expressed a desire for a larger scale project, the current renewal is constrained by size, height, and budget limitations. However, this feedback will be valuable for future planning, particularly for the upcoming renewal of the larger playground in nearby James Meehan Reserve. Read the community engagement report.

What now?

The project has now entered its implementation phase. The procurement process for playground equipment has been completed, and a construction contract has been awarded. To minimise disruption during peak usage periods, construction work is scheduled to commence in February 2025, following the busy summer and Christmas season.
