My Place: Manly adopted

Manly is a welcoming, bustling, and creative seaside town centre that offers a mix of cultural, tourist, retail and entertainment experiences. As an iconic tourist destination, Manly is an important employment centre and a transport and recreational hub for the Northern Beaches. Manly is also the only designated late-night precinct on the Northern Beaches identified in our Local Strategic Planning Statement, Towards 2040.

Night-time economy includes all commercial activity that takes place between 6pm and 6am. This incorporates a broad range of activities including entertainment, retail, hospitality, transport, and accommodation services. The night-time economy plays a vital role in making Manly a vibrant, safe and prosperous place.


My Place: Manly

Our Manly 24-Hour Night-Time Economy Strategy helped inform the development of our draft Place Plan, My Place: Manly.

The draft Place Plan was exhibited between 9 October and 10 December 2023. We received over 500 responses to the draft place plan, over 140 responses to the Night-Time Economy survey, plus over 120 written contributions.

A report outlining the outcomes from engagement on the draft Place Plan was presented to Council on Tuesday 6 August, and Council endorsed the Place Plan. Visit My Place: Manly for more information.


Next steps

With My Place: Manly now endorsed by Council, we will begin implementing the listed actions and priorities. We are excited to watch Manly grow and evolve over the short, medium and long term and are grateful for all the insightful feedback and comments from the public.

Principles for Manly’s Night-Time Economy

My Place: Manly was informed by the Manly Night-Time Economy Strategy 2022 (Hill PDA) which identifies a number of principles to support and enhance the economy while balancing the competing needs of all stakeholders in Manly.

  • Foster a thriving and creative Night-Time Economy reflecting local identity

  • Build partnerships and capability for businesses and the community to deliver exciting and unique night-time experiences

  • Encourage a diversity of night-time offerings catering to all demographics

  • Create a Night-Time Economy that leverages and enhances natural beauty and built environment

  • Support safe and accessible places that welcome local, workers and visitors
