We consulted with you on a proposal to name the laneway adjacent to Alexander Street, Collaroy. Following this consultation, Council resolved to name the laneway Hibiscus Lane at its meeting on Tuesday 13 August 2024.
The Geographical Names Board of NSW (GNB), however, advised that Hibiscus Lane cannot be used due to similar-sounding street names nearby.
A new name, Flax Lily Lane, with pre-approval from the GNB was presented to Council at its meeting on 17 June 2025, and Council resolved to adopt the name.

We asked for your feedback on the proposed name, Flax Lily Lane, from 6 August to 7 September 2025. We are now reviewing the feedback we received and preparing a report for a future Council meeting.

Project history
The laneway adjacent to Alexander Street, Collaroy is currently unnamed and provides business access to the rear of properties from 1101-1119 Pittwater Road, Collaroy.
Between 23 February and 24 March 2024 we exhibited a proposal to name this laneway from Alexander Street (adj. No.1) to end, Hibiscus Lane, referencing the prominent Hibiscus growing nearby. We received 245 responses.
A significant number of respondents requested an alternate name, Wicks Lane, to recognise Wicks Surf Shop Collaroy, however, the Geographical Names Board (GNB) Place Naming Policy does not permit using a business name that is still in use.
We presented a report outlining the outcomes of engagement to Council at its meeting on Tuesday 13 August 2024, and Council resolved to name the laneway Hibiscus Lane.

The naming proposal is being carried out in line with guidelines of both the GNB of NSW and Council’s Policy for the Naming of our Reserves, Facilities and Roads.
Notice of intention to name this laneway was provided in accordance with Section 162 of the Roads Act 1993 and Section 7 of the Roads Regulation 2018.
