  • Social benefits of proposed Creative Art Space

During the public engagement phase, the community enthusiastically embraced the initiative and contributed through more than 650 submissions, workshops and an Advisory Group of over 30 participants. This engagement primarily identified community needs, functions for the space and location criteria; of which the Avalon Annexe and Avalon Golf Clubhouse were identified as the most suitable sites for the Art Space within the budgetary requirements.

    A recurring theme was the importance of the location being; visible, accessible and connected to a village centre.The Creative Art Space North will provide ongoing social benefits for the area through;

    • Connection - providing an environment that is welcoming, a place where artists and the community can meet, create and view art
    • Access - affordable rates, with equitable access for users
    • Enrichment – offering a diverse range of community exhibitions and activities
    • Stimulation - providing opportunity for programming to learn and experience art
    • Belonging - enhancing community identity and emphasising the unique characteristics of the Northern Beaches.

  • Project update

The Advisory Group - consisting of 34 passionate artists, creatives, businesses and residents – have worked hard to help establish clear parameters for the Creative Art Space project.

It was a unifying theme in all discussions across the three Advisory Group workshops (held during December 2017 to March 2018) that the new Creative Art Space must balance the needs of artists and the broader community. The group recommended that the space should facilitate both the development and presentation of art; it should be a space where professionals and amateurs can create, new artists can learn, and the broader community can experience the development and exhibition of art.

The independent consultant on the project (KJA Consulting) has now presented their report on the outcomes from the Advisory Group engagement to Council

View workshop report - April 2018

The report will inform the selection of a site and the development of a Concept Plan for this exciting project.

A draft Concept Plan is underway and likely to be available for public comment in the coming months, so watch this space!

  • Background

by acrgstaff07, over 1 year ago

On 27 June 2017 the Administrator’s Merger Savings Fund was adopted.

Through the Merger Savings Fund an allocation of $1 million has been made in 2017/2018 for the development of a new Creative Art (Cultural) Space in the northern end of the Northern Beaches.

A review of current access to community art spaces on the Northern Beaches identified this project would fill a gap in the northern area of the Local Government Area.

We’re looking for input from the community to help build the vision for the space.
